The Last Blossom- by elaineyw

Chapter 1: It was an ordinary day for Sakura: reading, writing, school and chores. Sakura was always unhappy with these things, especically when it came to chores, but if she knew everything was about to change, she would have done everything gladly.
It were those happy, golden years before the unevitable happened. Sakura lost her parent shortly after the Nagasaki Kunchi 'Dragon Dance'. Unlike the other years where she had attended, this one was filled with people. Mostly tourists. There was the usual music that blasted to her ears, young children jumping up and down and screaming with excitment and the merchants pushing their carts, trying to sell their product. Then, Sukura looked up and she immediately noticed the sky looked like it was about to rain.
''Could it be?,'' Sakura wondered. Before the parade started, actually, more like last night, there was a weather warning, but most people payed no attention. Now they had to pay the price for it. Suddenly, it started to down pour with rain. The low-ground areas were flooded instantly and the wind felt like it was whipping against Sakura's face. She could see the waves comming in and crashing down on the houses.
It was then the crowd identified it a typhoon and started to run to higher grounds. Even though it was probably still going to be an hour until land-fall, there wasn't much time. With the amount of people and with little space, they had to make sure they were there first.
People pushed and shoved each other only caring to save themselves. Before Sakura and her parents realized what was happening, a giant crowd for people were rampaging their way through, heading straight toward them. It was too late for both Sakura and her parents to turn around and run ahead of them or move out of the way. Before they knew it, the only grip that held Sakura and her parents were gone...
When Sakura recovered from the fall when she was trampled, she expected to find her parents, right beside of her, or at least in her sight. Instead, they were no where to be found. Sakura shook her head, making the dirt fall off her head.
''What happened?,'' Sakura thought. When she tried to think back, her mind went blurry. She remembered screaming and pushing and her parents...-where were her parents?
Sakura searched high and low for them, but she could not find them. Holding back tears, she knew she had to remain strong. She decided the best thing she could do now is to head over to one of her family's most trusted friends, Hiroshi Matsumoto. She knew that his house wasn't exactly on high-ground, but it'll do.
Sakura ran the whole way, the started to walk as she came toward the door, Sakura wondering what she should tell him. She lost her parents while trying to escape the typhoon warning? Sakura didn't care. She just wanted help. Sakura knocked the door. She hoped he was home, but there was no answer. Sakura knocked again, desperate, then again. No answer. She waiting for a minute. Still no answer. Tears once again sprang to her eyes. She turned away, then tried to think of the next possible closest friend.
'' Dare ka, who's there?,'' a voice said cautiously. Sakura's head that was hanging in dissapointment instantly rose up.
'' Sore wa watashi, Sakura, Nakamura Kazuki no musume san!, it's me, daughter of Nakamura Kazuki!,'' Sakura exclaimed. Hiroshi's eyebrow knitted together.
'' Sakura Kazuki, nani wo yaru n desu ka?, Sakura Kazuki, what are you doing here?,'' Hiroshi asked, almost a little unpleasntly. Then added, '' ubchi ni, zehi, come inside,'' using his arm as a welcome gesture. Sakura did not need to be called twice, she almost ran into the house.

Yes, I know, that's a very short chapter. But remember, this is what I have so far of the 1st chap. I guess you could say I didn't even finish the first chapter, but oh well. When I have the complete chapter I'll post again.
